RJHS ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN OVER CLARKSVILLE

The Russellville Junior High School Whirlwinds finished the regular season with a 53-35 win over the Clarksville Junior Panthers on Thursday inside Whirlwind Gymnasium. "Our press was our biggest contributor tonight," Russellville head coach Matt Howerton said. "We got the ball rolling early with some Panther turnovers." The Whirlwinds led 12-7 after the first quarter and 25-18 at halftime. After the third quarter, they were up 42-25. Amare Ellis led in scoring with 16 points, followed by Cameron Frazier with 12 points. "Amare Ellis shot it very well," Howerton said. "Cameron had a typical all-round great game with steals, blocks and rebounds along with 12 points." Russellville finished the regular season 11-10 overall and 8-6 in conference play and earned the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament on Saturday in Little Rock. The Whirlwinds face Searcy in round one. The eighth-grade team defeated Clarksville 42-14. "The boys finished the season strong with some great defense and timely shooting," Howerton said. Luke Stump and Josh Powell each finished with 10 points. The Whirlwinds led 10-7 after the first quarter and 18-10 at halftime. After the third quarter, they were up 29-10. "The eighth-graders finished 8-8 on the season with two of their best players playing on the ninth-grade team," Howerton said. "Next year looks promising."
